The Uttarakhand Government has made Kedarnath Yatra registration mandatory to ensure the safety and smooth management of pilgrims. Devotees can complete Kedarnath Dham Yatra registration online through the official portal by submitting ID proof and travel details. After registration, you receive a Kedarnath Yatra e-pass, which is compulsory for temple entry. This system helps in crowd management and ensures that pilgrims have a safe and hassle-free experience.
Kedarnath Yatra Distance & Route
The Kedarnath Yatra distance by foot is around 16 km from Gaurikund, the last motorable point and the official Kedarnath Yatra starting point. Pilgrims trek through steep trails, scenic forests, and riverside paths before reaching the temple. For those who cannot trek, pony, palanquin, and helicopter services are available. The overall Kedarnath Yatra distance varies depending on the chosen route and mode of travel.
The traditional Kedarnath Yatra route begins from Haridwar or Rishikesh, moving towards Guptkashi, Sonprayag, Gaurikund, and finally Kedarnath. This route is spiritually enriching as it passes through picturesque valleys and sacred rivers.
Kedarnath Yatra Start Date 2025
The Kedarnath Yatra start date is generally announced on the auspicious day of Maha Shivratri. In 2025, the temple is expected to open in late April or early May, depending on the Hindu calendar. The Yatra remains open until Kartik Purnima (October–November), after which the temple closes for winter due to heavy snowfall.
Age Limit for Kedarnath Yatra
The age limit for Kedarnath Yatra is set for safety reasons. Children below 5 years and elderly above 75 years are generally advised not to undertake the trek due to high altitude and tough conditions. Medical fitness certificates may be required for senior citizens before registration.
Kedarnath Yatra Map & Starting Point
